Denmark - In a bid to bring the youths' attention to the upcoming European Parliament elections, the Danish Parliament uploaded a cartoon advertisement to its official YouTube account. Instead of the positive outcome they'd hoped for, the lawmakers were harshly criticized for the controversial video clip and had to pull it down.

The cartoon features the burlesque main character Voteman making sure people have their say in the elections. He is summoned by a phone call amidst a group sex scene and, rather violently, sends politically apathetic persons to the polling booths by knocking them off their feet and punching them in the face.
It is revealed in a background narrative that as young man, Voteman once missed the European Parliament elections and had not influenced "climate regulations, agricultural subsidies, chemicals in toys... and the amount of cinnamon allowed in his cinnamon buns." Thus, he has vowed to make everybody vote, and the clip ends with a "warning" against trying to escape from Voteman's wrath unless one refuses to vote.

Speaker of the Danish Parliament has since apologized for the cartoon's controversial and "vulgar" sex and violence scenes, although he did point out that the target audience were the youths. The Speaker had also said the Parliament, as an institution, would approach everything they put their name on more carefully.
Next week, member countries of the European Union are to elect their respective representatives to the European Parliament. Danish voters are to cast their votes on May 25.
